Then it’s four laps behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman, and finally four in the mighty 997 Turbo. Location: Thruxton, Hampshire (South West)

You will receive a detailed 25 minute briefing and be shown around the track for three laps in a Mazda 3 MPS, driven by your instructor. Then you will take to the wheel of the Porsche Cayman for four laps of the course – totalling 9.36 miles. Two world-famous marques go head to head – with you in the driving seat. Experience the Porsche GT3 RS and the Nissan GT-R and discover what makes these cars so special in what will be a very close contest. The track-focused Porsche is astonishingly quick with sensational handling to match, making the 415bhp beast one serious machine. The Nissan is the UK’s fastest car in its price range, reaching 62mph in just 3.5 seconds and going onto an incredible top speed of 195mph. It even lapped Germany’s famous Nurburgring quicker than the Bugatti Veyron! You’ll kick off with a briefing on driving techniques, then your ARDS instructor will drive you for two training laps in a BMW Alpina so that you can learn the racing lines. Next, take the wheel yourself of the Porsche GT3 RS for four laps around the 1.8 mile long track. Once you’ve got your breath back, step into the Nissan GT-R for a further four laps. Your driving will be assessed and you’ll walk away with a certificate as a memento.

Positioning the engine behind the rear wheels should lead to an unbalanced car, but five decades of developing and honing the chassis and suspension has resulted in the tremendously capable Porsche 997 Turbo. With a devoted fan base worldwide, the latest incarnation of this design icon has 472bhp and a top speed of 193mph. In short, a spin in this legendary car is sure to satisfy any driving enthusiast. You’ll start with a briefing on safety and driving techniques, then your instructor will drive for three laps in a Mazda 3 MPS to show you the driving lines. Next you’ll get into the driving seat for four laps in a Porsche Cayman, four in the new Porsche 997 Turbo and five either in a Ginetta G20 or a 1.7 litre Formula Renault – either way, with lightning-quick steering and braking, both these dynamos give a totally different ride to the Porsche.
